Greetings! Well Mother Nature has given us a wild start to the season here in Grantham. A few snow storms mixed in with an exceptionally cold December made for some great riding over the holidays and into the first couple weeks of January. Despite the extremely cold temperatures, I ran into fellow snowmobilers, cross-country skiers, dog mushers, hikers and fat-tire mountain bikers all enjoying the local trail network.
I would like to take a moment to thank all of the landowners who have graciously allowed use of their property and all the volunteers who have helped get our trails ready for the season. Our volunteers have spent many hours on equipment maintenance, trail work, administrative duties, grooming, etc… in order to make our network of trails the best it can be. If you haven’t considered joining a local club and helping out in some way, I would ask you to reconsider. The time spent with family and friends on a sport we all love makes for some fantastic memories.
I realized we’ve hit a patch of weather with a lot of that dreaded “R_ _ _” word. However, because of the cold weather we haven’t lost our entire base and looking at the extended forecast I am seeing some of that white stuff in the forecast again. The riding season isn’t over yet and February has delivered some epic snow storms in the past.
Keep an eye on our Facebook page for upcoming information on the Blue Mountain Sled Dog race scheduled for February 18th. Our monthly club meetings are held the first Tuesday of every month at the Grantham Town Hall at 6:30. Hope to see you there.
